Welcome to A+Yarns and More, a new brand of alpaca plus wool blended yarns and so much more!

I am Maria, a teacher who loves to craft with anything fiber-y. I spin, I knit and am recently learning to become a weaver.

A while ago, I came into nearly 200 pounds of suri alpaca fiber. As an ambitious spinner, I decided to try to process this fiber myself. I washed a small amount and began to card it; however, suri fibers are QUITE slick. They are luscious and smooth and therefore difficult to hand spin. I also realized that I did not have enough time in my life to be able to process all this amazing fiber. As a knitter, I also knew that this amazing resource could NOT be wasted. I decided to try to find a local mill to spin this amazing fiber into yarn.

Lo and behold, I was able to find a mill who specializes in alpaca fibers and knew just how to process the fiber. I made a downpayment to process the yarn and realized that this adventure was turning into a small business. So, about 16 months later, I find myself with amazing American-made, high quality yarn: and A+ Yarns and More was born.

The name symbolizes ALPACA + wool in the yarn, and it also represents me as a teacher. A+ is the highest grade that can be earned, and I feel that local, natural high quality yarn deserves the highest mark we can give it. Alpaca blended yarns, PLUS more high quality fiber tools.
